New Addition
When we found out that I was pregnant with Hannah, Nick said, "We should probably wait until the end of the first trimester to tell people, just in case."
"Good idea," I said. "I totally agree." I was busting to share the news....but I only told a few people, like my oldest girlfriends, a friend or two who lived near me, a couple former co-workers, maybe random cashiers at the grocery and Target... Clearly, it's just not a secret I'm good at keeping. So if you haven't already heard via phone call, email, face-to-face announcement or Facebook, we're having another baby!

We won't find out what it is for another 4 or 5 weeks, so right now we're calling it Baby Due (DOO-eh, as in Italian for Two, not due like "when are you due?"). The pregnancy is going well now, although I had a couple really rough weeks of lying on the couch and saying, "Hannah, don't touch that...ok, fine, just don't hurt yourself..." as she ran by between incidents of mayhem and destruction.
It is a little harder this time to surrender my body to forces outside my control and all the rules that go along with them. It took a LONG time to get back into shape after Hannah. Plus, I only had about a month, between weaning her and finding out about Due, where I could have a couple glasses of wine or an extra latte without worrying about how it would affect the baby. (We're currently visiting my brother in Santa Rosa, the heart of California wine country, which is a little bit of torture. The recovering alcoholics and the pregnant ladies are the only ones ordering iced tea with dinner...and I don't really look pregnant yet.)
All whining aside, we are both super excited about this new little person. (It's much easier to be enthusiastic now that I'm not walking around all day scouting out possible vomit locations.) Hannah will only be 22 months older, so hopefully they'll be good friends someday. Although in the short term, we may have to buy protective headgear for the baby.

congratulations! wishing for a speedy death on the couch while watching one's toddler(s) wreak havoc is no picnic in the park, this I bear strong testimony of.
good luck and know that this too shall pass!
Katie, it is a bit harder when you're dealing with pregnancy issues while caring for a toddler! The first time around, you can catch that nap or lay on the couch every time it strikes, but darn if the toddler doesn't have to be fed and played with! Though they don't seem to mind if you have to do that from a horizontal position on the couch.
When I was pregnant with Tait, Oles would play "mommy" wherein he would stand over the toilet and make gagging sounds before spitting into the toilet and then flushing. At least I could appreciate the humor of that!
