Happy Halloween!
Would you have thought that a 16-month-old would understand the concept of trick-or-treating? If so. . . you know Hannah much better than we do.
As you can see, she also understands the concept of lollipops. Probably because she had already sampled not one but two suckers this week: one after her 16-month checkup shots (she looked really sad and sniffly and the receptionist thought it would cheer her up...bingo!) and the other from a cashier at the store.
As you can see, she also understands the concept of lollipops. Probably because she had already sampled not one but two suckers this week: one after her 16-month checkup shots (she looked really sad and sniffly and the receptionist thought it would cheer her up...bingo!) and the other from a cashier at the store. So Nick took her to a couple houses while I handed out our candy. She hopped right in line with the other kids and held out her little basket, big smile on her face. He took her to four houses and tried to bring her home...wrong answer. So she and I went back out.
I had not been in favor of taking a child out who cannot yet say, "trick or treat!" (My line of thinking: it looks like adults using an adorable baby to score free candy.) And sure enough, at the second house we went to, the man opened the door, paused for a moment to size us up, and said, "Now you're not going to let your mom eat this candy, right?" Ouch.
But since Hannah's two favorite things seem to be charming strangers and lollipops, I just didn't have the heart to deny her. So we wrapped up the block and went back home, where she was mostly content with checking out all the kids who came by. Although she didn't like giving them our candy. Good thing she doesn't know where her trick-or-treating candy is going now that she's in bed. . . We'll leave her the half-eaten, super-sticky suckers.
