Press Release
April 27, 2009 ~ Madison
Management and Worker have resolved their differences, bringing an end to the breastfeeding strike that had begun last Tuesday. A spokesperson for the Worker, of Eaters Union, Local 1921, said that her teeth were now in and she was willing to return to the task of eating.
The union representative said that the whole situation might have been avoided if Management had not undertaken what was perceived as unreasonable measures to correct Worker behavior. Management contends that the "pull-in" response to biting is widely accepted as a best practice and that the Worker was in no danger of smothering. Something had to be done to avoid permanent damage to the equipment, which the Worker was misusing.
Management was relieved that the Worker had decided to return to the job, as the strike was on the verge of becoming a permanent lockout. Management is hopeful that her demands have been met as well (no more biting). The union representative was vague on the future of that matter.
