Another First

That's right, Hannah had another first this weekend: First College Football Game. Not coincidentally, it was also her First Time Someone Spills a Rum & Coke on Your Stuff. (Classy, classy Iowa State fans.) Nothing like having your baby's diaper bag smell like liquor. Yes, you can send the "Parents of the Year" plaque to our home address.

We made the trip to Iowa City to cheer on the Cyclones (Iowa State, Nick's alma mater) against the Hawkeyes (Iowa) in the cleverly-named CyHawk series (featuring the oh-so-cleverly-named mascots Cy the Cyclone and Herky the Hawkeye). We hadn't planned on going to the game, but one of Nick's old college roommates works for a bank that had tickets to spare, so the next thing we knew, we were in the 4th row! Other than the mixed-drink-spilling incident, it was tons of fun. Hannah slept through part of the first half and the entire fourth quarter, proving that babies really can sleep anywhere, anytime.

Unfortunately, the Cyclones lost a closer-than-it-sounds 17-3, but Nick had a great time catching up with his college buddies. Sunday was my turn to catch up- we had lunch on the way home with my friend and former teammate Melissa, who happened to be back home in Iowa from Colorado Springs. Where else could we take a picture besides by the giant ear of corn? I didn't think Iowa could really be full of nothing but corn- after all, you don't see giant potato fields all over Idaho- but having covered the eastern half of the state, I can attest that it's at least 75% starchy yellow goodness. Mmmmm!

I'm sad we missed you! I won't even ask about the cleanliness of the apartment, I can only imagine Dave's version...He said he had a great time, so thanks for hanging out with him. It made me feel a little less guilty about leaving town for 2 weeks...:) He also said Hannah is the best baby ever, and I said duh, look at her parents! :) I am going to a luncheon for Melissa Sonnier tomorrow, so I'll post some pics of her pregnant twin belly! :) Jenn Watkins

PS- It's good to see that big southern bow on Hannah's head! :)

Thank you for letting me go along on your adventures...the stadium picture is charming! Your writing is so vivid that I think I can smell the rum and coke! It's sticky, too!
