Happy Days

I realize that most of my posts have been slightly cranky rants on the strange and/or unpleasant bits of pregnancy. So, for the record and to (hopefully) keep Hannah off the therapist's couch, let me just say that right now I LOVE being pregnant. Sure, my thighs strive daily for new records in circumference and jiggle and I just about pass out when I bend over because the belly is winning the battle with the lungs for internal real estate space, but I still love it.

For one thing, Hannah moves around all the time. And she's starting to pack a punch, which means Nick and I can both feel and see it happen. It is nothing short of bizarre to see your stomach undulate and realize that there is a (nearly) independent life form in there, but it's still just about the coolest thing. I felt something small and bony poking out the other day- an elbow? a foot?- and it blew me away. It's the first time I've felt a body part- she's still small enough to be well-padded by amniotic fluid, uterus, and the side effects of Dairy Queen outings.

I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose a baby at this point, and we pray daily we won't ever have to find out. She seems so strong and real, even though she's probably still less than 3 pounds and could face serious complications if she decided to come now, during my 30th week.

Of course, we can't keep things simple and just pray for a full-term delivery. For those of you who haven't been involved in the drama, Nick's Idaho job disappeared about a month ago. Long story short, we are now moving to Madison, Wisconsin so he can do a fellowship next year. It actually worked out really well, except for the part where we now have to move at the end of June instead of the end of the summer. My due date? June 14. So it would be really great (Hannah, are you paying attention?) if the baby could be born a little early. . . but not too early because Nick has to take this monster oral board exam in Louisville, Kentucky between May 31 and June 3. So we are requesting that Hannah enter the world between June 5 and 7, thankyouverymuch. All you parents out there who know better, just smile and let us keep our little fantasy planning intact, ok?
